Language documentation and investigation of linguistic patterns

  • We document and describe practically unknown varieties of Arabic in South Iran, ensuring a long-lasting record and accessibility of the language data.
  • We create a digital corpus of spoken Arabic from the South-Iranian provinces Bu­shehr and Hormozgan.
  • We explore the linguistic situation of the Arabic varieties from a socio-linguistic and an areal-linguistic perspective.
  • We investigate the phonology, morphology, syntax and pro­sody of the Arabic varieties from a cross-dialectal perspective.
  • We examine linguistic contact phenomena between Arabic and Persian.
  • We collect and document cultural practices, specifically the music of the Arab minority in this region.
